I am working on a project called http://AudioPyro.com that allows musicians to upload as much music as they want. We give them the tools to organize the music, images, album covers, etc. This is a service that musicians actually created for other musicians to like and enjoy; not some contrived idea that has to enduce people to use.

Thanks for noticing Kent. Ditto on the analysis. I'm surprised they've been able to attract investors. On the perchance some may be reading, I have an idea for a water park in New Orleans.Cheers.

Kent, This is right on. Gather is so-yesterday. The edge will really become more powerful as content owners realize the value of their own content and charge for it. I wrote on a similar theme sometime back (Own your content..and charge for it - http://www.webvapors.com/?p=19). You might also want to take a look at iNods (http://www.inods.com) where we are pushing a similar decentralized model for review content aggregation.

Very interesting post, Kent. There are many ways to slice and dice the "ultimate" blogging platform. I agree with you in that I'm not sure a revenue share is the way to do it. Can anyone expect these writers to make a significant sum in the first year, second year, third year of this type of model? The Globe article claims that Gather has "8,500 readers," I believe. Anyone in online media knows that ain't much. Now I'm of course biased but... I believe in a value proposition in which bloggers are offered strong community, review materials, guidance in terms of story suggestions as well as (significantly) professional editing and writing mentorship. Blogcritics.org offers these things and has a strong and healthy following of many thousands because of it, built upon a grassroots network built up over three and a half years. We just don't have the $6 million investment that a Gather does!Sincerely,Eric BerlinExecutive ProducerBlogcritics.org
