Amen, Brother!

Stowe Boyd nails the whole noisy blogosphere thing. He says it perfectly. There’s nothing I can add so let me quote reverently one passage:

It has become the conventional wisdom to reel off those sorts of pronouncements in conference halls and hallways, and lament the loss of… what, exactly? A halcyon era when the front page of the regional paper and the news anchors on the three major channels fed us their take on the news? A simpler, more bucolic blogosphere a few years back when only a few hundred people were posting?

And his conclusion is even better.

Stowe’s post has my vote for post of the year so far. Go read it.

  • Fair point.

I was just blown away by how much I agreed with what Stowe said. I can see how readers could get bored with this blogosphere mumbo jumbo. I just feel so strongly that we need to make a place for everyone that I react to posts that touch on the issue.

Much like the gatekeeper business, I think (hope) I have said about all I have to say about the noisy blogosphere.

    Thanks for the conversation.

  • I think it would be interesting to get statistics on the number of people that read your blog that also read his blog. I'm sure there is a huge percentage of overlap. After reading this and thinking, well there's not really much here except a link over there and I've already read Stowe's original article so I can ignore this. No harm no foul. Then I click /Message on my hand bloglines aggregator and noticed that he now has a post where he acknowledges your post which is really just acknowledging his post. I'm getting dizzy.

I think you guys should bounce this back and forth a few more times and see if anybody notices. Maybe it can become some new neat kind of blog linking game.

Sorry if my comments have been a little negative recently. All of these what should we do about the blogosphere posts are starting to get to me. Can't we quit worrying about it and just start writing. And by writing, I mean writing content, not more stuff about how annoyed we are that everybody is still talking about it. I'll go reread one of your web 2.0 contest posts. I like those.
