It all depends on your situation, but I can't see why you would want to be part of a network apart from reason #5 - if you wanted to make more money. No-one can accuse you of being popular because the network supplied traffic - all your traffic is generated purely by the strength of your content. That's prestige.I'd expect that you've built a broad group of contacts over time and you have total control over your site. For newer, smaller bloggers and those keen on an income I can see the attraction but these blogs aren't the ones targeted by the main networks. With the mass of blogs available, networks, directories and blog communities (like ours) are going to be increasingly important in guiding readers to the best content, but there will always be room for well-known independent blogs.

Kent, if I were you, I wouldn't. #5 is the key, all blog networks are geared towards revenue generation, and if you stand out, I think it may even lead to conflicts regarding your content. I also believe you, me and many othes are in the group that WILL generate revenue from our blogs - but in a very, very indirect form through enhancing our professional reputation, gaining visibility ..etc. That's very different from ad placements.
