Kent Newsome on technology, music and life

When I'm 64

I might be happy using a 64 bit OS.

But for now, I have punted.  I wiped my new laptop and installed a good 'ol 32 bit version of Vista.

Now, I can pull my POP email (couldn't before).

Now, I can access my office email with Outlook web access (couldn't before).

Now, I can access my office via its portal (couldn't before).

Now I can use Rhapsody (couldn't before).

Now my built-in web cam sort of works (didn't before).

Granted, I knew when I bought a 64 bit system that a lot of stuff wouldn't work.  But I was surprised at how much didn't work.

Maybe I'll reinstall the 64 bit OS in a few months, if more applications are compatible.  In the meantime, I have happy to have my old, slow, insecure 32 bit OS that runs the applications I need.

You are a much braver soul than I am. I wouldn't even consider installing the 32 bit version until they've had a couple of years to get the kinks out.

I'll be getting a new laptop soon and was thinking about the x64 route. You closed the door on that. I'll go x86 multi core for now.

Cheers,
Robert

I had given some thought to installing the 64-bit version. I guess I won't waste any more thoughts on it for a while.

Umm, I have the same exact laptop you do however im still using Vista Ultimate x64 which runs great... Everything works fine... Other then Adobe not having Flash for the 64-bit version of any browser I would be using IEx64 too but for now I'm stuck with IEx86
