Thank you for linking to the post about my book, Brazen Careerist. I think you are really right about that part at the end, where you write, "I think people tend to over analyze job advancement. It's really simple. Be smart. Be honest. Be kind. Work hard. Live good. Manage priorities. Find your balance."The problem is that is a really really hard list of stuff to achieve. It's difficult to even know exactly what it means, let alone get it for oneself. Fortunately, blogs like yours help us all to figure it out. So thanks. Penelope

Re #3:I spent the last 8 years stariting entry level and climbing the ladder in my little IT field. Over the last year, I have finally realized that I can not climb higher without the career taking more of my life than I am willing to give at this stage of my life.So now I spend the next however long plugging away at projects and trying to keep clients happy while getting as much time as possible to be home with my family. Most of the time it turns out to be a really nice balance...but it took me several months and a couple bad projects and a lot of feeling disgruntled without knowing why before I realized that my current work status is as much as I want for now. Work has been much more fun again the last couple months.
