I consider Twitter and Pownce “IM-like” because for me they serve the same purpose. They allow me to communicate and share files and information with selected people in little application.I have never been much of an IM user or a chat room participant (both of which are, granted, more immediate), so for my purposes, IM and Pownce are fairly similar.

why are you comparing pownce to IM when it is not even Instant!It should be compared with email, and the benefits of pownce over email is pretty limited.
