[sniffle sniffle] ah .. you didn't like my mechanic analogy .. I'm hurt and so morified ... I worked on thinking that one up all day to.Humor aside though writers of all strips get paid for their thought, fiction or otherwise. Are you suggesting that bloggers who provide content that people like to read, debate and / or argue aren't writers and / or don't deserverto be compensated for their efforts? As for the donation model for software I can tell you from experieence it doesn't work. Just because you might be a rare case that donated to a single program that doesn't make it a model that pays for food, rent, hydro or other neccessities of life.Granted due to circumstances I don't need an income from WinExtra to pay for my neccessities of life. However if I want to continue to maintain WinExtra and whatever software I decide to write then the blog needs to pay for itself because I don't have enough extra to pay for it out of my pocket. As I said in the post you referenced I totally understand that the mis-use of advertsing on any type of website is irritating and in some case equal to visual pollution. That said not everyone is of a finacial position to fund on an on-going basis the platform from which they can voice their thoughts, opinions or become the next Edward R. Morrow (betcha you thought I was going to say Robert Scoble huh :) ). Are you suggesting then that they don't have a place on the web or that they be forced to make do with free services.Sorry to have carried on like this but you post hit my morning vision as I am working through my first coffee of the day :)

I'm not too worried about the corporate/political bias, I think the problem is rooted in entertainment masquerading as journalism. All it takes is for one person to suggest proof that 2+2=5 and we suddenly have a debate, and the 10 o'clock news needs to summon two experts, one to represent each camp, to discuss this deep fracture within the scientific community. If MSM was smart enough to investigate its sources and follow up by giving equal weight -- not equal parts, equal weight -- I don't know that most people would even hear of global non-warming.
