The Non-iTuners Manifesto

We have previously rejected iPods, because we refuse to capitulate to iTunes, both the application and the format, as the toll road to our musical destinations.

We hereby reject iTunes movie rentals because we refuse to capitulate to idiotic viewing limitations:

[T]he convenience of downloading and watching a movie immediately isn’t that great that you should lose the former rental flexibility, and so harshly.

Amen. Just because you can download something, doesn’t mean you should.

Long live Netflix.

  • Looks like it fails the Penny Arcade litmus test :-)
  • Yup - gets my signature!
  • I'm not really anonymous, I just couldn't get to grips with the comment system. Sorry.

I previously rejected the iPod, too, because of its adherence to iTunes, but then I discovered ml_ipod the Winamp iPod plugin which deftly avoids any need for iTunes, and works like a blimmin' dream.

iTunes won't even install on my machine, so I would have been up the Swanee anyway. It certainly is a bloated behemoth. But, I don't care because ml_ipod weighs next to nothing and sets your iPod free. You can even transfer music back onto your hard drive - Man, I can't praise it enough!

  • I used to use iTunes and then record and rerip any music that I bought. But when I switched to Linux 100% at home, iTunes was not an option anymore. Oh well. If they don't want my money....

For the record, I love Netflix but am fairly annoyed that their watch it now only works on IE.
