Thanks Ric- the more I experiment with Open Office, the more I like it. I wish they would put it in the cloud, to avoid the necessity of installing it on your computer and to give you universal access.

Mike, I haven't explored too much, but it looks like there are a lot of plug-ins out there.

I too have been using OpenOffice for years. I don't even have Office on my non-work computers. And only have it on my non-work computer because it was installed there during the initial build.

I hadn't heard of the extension for Google Docs. Thanks for the tip.

Had I realised you hadn't looked at it yet, I would have suggested OOo to you earlier ... I shouldn't make sweeping assumptions, should I? - I've been using it alongside MS products for about 6 years, more successfully now than earlier and for similar reasons as you. I have moved substantially to the cloud for my personal and business life, and 2/3 of my PCs run Ubuntu (plus I'm happy to move away from MS), but I have the same issue with Google Docs - it's good for collaborating on content of a document, but ultimately you have to use something more substantial to get it looking 'business-like' ... so into OOo it goes (and then when finished, one-click creation of a PDF for safe, simple distribution).
